The Red Tie Strangler is a killer who strangles his victims with a red tie, cleans the bodies and then leaves the bodies to be found.
Why does the Strangler do what he does? What it boils down to is that he has some serious mother issues; he resents his mother for leaving him alone with his abusive father. Everything bad that happed in his life, the Strangler blames on his mother not being around.
In the mind of the Strangler, the tie is an attempt to force them into the role society expects them to fullfil, it forces conformaty onto them.
Meet the victims
Sofia Ferreira was a first year law student who reminded the Red Tie Strangler of his mother because of the way she dressed, with was almost the same style of clothing his mother wore. Ferreira is the Strangler’s first victim with this pratiicular Modus Operandie (MO) but the investiagtors have suspected that the Strangler has killed before. Ferreira was in the same class as the Red Tie Strangler and he befriended her so that she would trust him. And a few months later, he killed her.

The Red Tie Strangler’s second victim is Hayden Mare, and she and Ferreira seemingly didn’t have any contact with each other or any overlapping friends or any other indicators that the victims knew each other. The Red Tie Strangler met her in a bookstore and befriended her, becoming more an acquaintances than a close friend. He lured her out to the same industrial complex one night and murdered her, using surgical gloves to prefent his prints of being left behind. He took her phone and gave it to a sleeping homeless person to prevent the police of finding it, or the evidence that would link him to the victim.

The Red Tie Strangler’s third and final victim is Natalie Le Roux, a twenty-year-old art student who dressed in the same way as the Strangler’s mother. After Le Roux’ body was found, investigators found a single surgical glove with enough DNA on to run a DNA test. Although this isn’t generally done in South Africa, the police felt that given the nature of the events and the amount of media exposure surrounding the case, it would be best to rap the case up as fast as possible, also preventing the Red Tie Strangler killing any more potential victims.
Conclusion
After expensive DNA testing, the police found no comparison in any known databases. The police were able to find the killer by extending the search grid to include a greater area surrounding the crime scenes and any common denominators. This provided investigators with a possible witness who saw the last victim alive and with a man around her own age. He was able to give the investigators a positive eyewitness description of the killer. By circulating the picture around Le Roux’ friends were able to identify the Strangler as the twenty-one-year-old medical student named Brad Jones. During the attempted arrest, Jones managed to escape and it is suspected that he is planning his next move at this very moment.
